Nilo Farias dies, illustrious Cuban

Baltimore, March 24 2010. Yesterday morning after a long illness Nilo Farias passed away (former Cuban political prisoner) in the Northwest hospital of the city. His body will lay in state at the Eckhardt Funeral Chapel located at 11605 Reisterstown Road. Owings Mills, MD 21117 on March 25 and will be laid to rest on the 26th.

The Cubanamerican Nilo Farias arrived in the United States in the year 1969 via Mexico after emigrating permanently from his country after serving five years as a political prisoner for a sentence arbitrarily imposed by the island's communist regime for his activities fostering freedom and democracy.

Nilo, a lawyer also accumulated two degrees in his fruitful life. Once settled in the United States, "The land of freedom" as he liked to call it, was devoted entirely to education. Nilo Farias, will always be remembered for what he was, a man of integrity and a Cuban patriot.

He is survived by his wife Migdalia, and daughters Felicitas and Migdy as well as granddaughters and grandsons.

Rest in peace dear brother and compatriot, when freedom illuminates our country, your name and example will be passed through our history to the younger generation.

Signed: Cuban Movement for a Unified Democracy and SOS Justice.
